This year, we will be doing a project that will take place over the summer. You will start it in my class and then come back to present your finished project three weeks after the start of the 2021-2022 school year. We will read the book Flat Stanley prior to when you are expected to start working on the project. This project is called Flat Stanley. Starting on March 8, you will help your student create a figure from paper like what is shown below. If I were you, I would try to have the figure done before spring break that way you can take him on spring break with you. The figure that you and your student create together is supposed to be completely customized. For example, if your student likes soccer, then you can make a soccer themed Flat Stanley. One of the students below really likes hockey so they made a hockey Flat Stanley and used their favorite teams jersey.
As you travel throughout the spring and summer, take your Flat Stanley with you. Be sure to take lots and lots of pictures of Flat Stanley with family and in the places you travel to! I will send a folder home with your student that has papers for them to fill out for each place that your family goes. At the end of the summer, when all of your travels are over, you will create some kind of scrapbook using pictures from your vacations and pictures of your Flat Stanley that you took while on your vacations (examples are provided below). You will need to caption the pictures and put no less than five fun facts about each place that you travel to. Make sure to include the location of your destination! There is no limit to how many pictures or pages you put but you need to have a minimum of 25 pages with at least 30 pictures throughout the 25 pages. The more the better! The pages don't have to be front and back but if they are, the front will count as a page, and the back will count as a page so it would be 2 pages total per piece of paper. Parents, I know you are helping your students with this project. That is why the requirement for pages and pictures is so high. Please have fun while doing this project!
Below, you will find an example of what will be sent home with your children after we finish reading Flat Stanley. I want to wish you all good luck on your project and happy travels!
